It was a dramatic moment - sad even - in the early hours of the day. It happened about twenty seconds after I caught my first wave on an otherwise placid, overcast morning.

29 April, 2008 : - - San Clemente — The 6.0 Lowers Pro commenced competition this morning in clean two-to-three foot surf at Lower Trestles, California and Day 1 saw the famed cobblestone pointbreak play host to some of the most dynamic surfing of the season. The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 4-Star event completed the opening round of competition today as well as the first nine heats of Round 2.
